         The ancient Marcina, Etruscan , landing place of Nuceria Alfaterna, from the very beginning noted for ceramics (a cargo of the V B.C. discovered off Panarea in Sicily was made up of vases and tiles from Vietri). The ceramics made the town rich and florid until the attack of Genserico in 455, put it to sword and flame...

Rebuilt to even greater splendour in the VIII century, then a tormented history of blood and chains, of cultures that met, fought and finally lived in harmony: the vicinity to Salerno excluded Vietri from the Amalfitan alliance , after the Longobards came the Normans then the Angevins, the Spanish and worst of all the Saracen pirates, finishing with a long period of abandon . The people of Vietri were stubborn and strong and returning to the never forgotten art of ceramics , life went on. In the XVIII  century there were more than fifty kilns...
