The pretty seafront where we now find ourselves is fruit of a gradual advancement started in the early 1920's; the Obelisk is dated ten years earlier , made from one of two columns surviving from the first Basilica of S. Trofimena...
The little square on our right , until the middle of the last century was used to dry the " Pasta Fina", a golden and perfumed island , one reads in the " Tour through the Southern provinces of the kingdom of Naples", by the Hon. Richard Craven (1821) ; almost at the back the

MOORISH FOUNTAIN.
dating from the second half of the XIX century , admire the two marble lions very probably from the ancient entrance of the Cathedral , conforming to the style "Desideriano", used in Campania between the XI and the XIII centuries.

Take the SS.163 and after a few paces we find: the tower of the Annunziata , practically at the entrance to Castle Mezzacapo , called after the noble family of Maiori who had it built in the last century; and the Grotto dell' Annunziata which holds the ruins of an ancient Church with a fine fresco of the " Virgin Annunziata who welcomes the fishermen"...

Further ahead is Maiori, stop to enjoy the view from Rione Campo , of the yellow Dome of the Collegiata, the Norman Tower... but it is time to turn back.
